East River Veterinary Clinic- Our Staff

Shelley Halstead, LVT & Office Manager

A 2005 graduate from St. Petersburg College, I have been a Licensed Veterinary Technician at North M-18 Veterinary Clinic for 12 years. I enjoy working with young dogs and their owners on proper puppy behavior. I frequently attend continuing education conferences in order to further my education and expand my skills in veterinary medicine.  I enjoy interacting with both the clients and their pets.  It is my goal to strengthen the human-animal bond, as well as playing a supportive role to the other staff members and veterinarians. Outside of work, I love spending time outdoors with my family and can often be seen on a softball field in the middle of summer.

Cassondra Verellen, LVT

I have been in the veterinary field since 2012. In the summer of 2011, I graduated from Baker College of Flint earning my associates degree in veterinary technology. I have continued my education through attendance of various seminars and online courses. I love to educate clients about the best care for their pets and to explain the reasons why we make the recommendations that we do. I am the proud owner of two dogs named Sissy and Harley, and two cats named Blaze and Domino. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, reading and spending time with family and friends.

Kelsey Gere, Veterinary Assistant

Kelsey has been working in the veterinary field since 2011.  She graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology.  She is now pursuing her degree as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.  She enjoys working hands-on with the patients.  Her favorite part of the job is advocating for the patients and educating clients.  Kelsey has a dog named Parker, a cat named Thumper, and a fish named Merlot.  In her spare time, she likes to be outdoors camping, playing sports, and kayaking.

Steve Boyer, Receptionist

Steve fell into the veterinary medicine world by chance back in 2009.  Having no knowledge in the field, he was trained by his superiors and worked on the administration side of the industry.  Working his way up, he was trained to be a Vet Assistant, which included preparing vaccines for administering, pet handling and assisting the Licensed Veterinary Technicians.  After taking a three-year break from the industry in 2016, he has joined our team here at East River Veterinary Clinic, and we are happy to have him.  Steve has two Labrador Retrievers at home, along with six chickens.  Steve is an artist at heart.  He is a retired dancer/gymnast.  In his spare time, he focuses on writing and photography.
